Electromechanical has been isolated from
mechanical for over 30 years, but has developed an inherently sound self-contained
infrastructure.
In fact, as a result of the isolation and need to describe and
validate product definition, electromechanical authoring and technology
tools have evolved at a faster pace than many mechanical tools. While this
has been advantageous for electromechanical, the rapid and uncoordinated
advancement of tools have further segregated electromechanical data from
mechanical product definition.
Therefore, simply adding another technology or authoring tool to one
discipline or the other will not bridge the islands of technology.
Instead, the data need to be merged with common inter-discipline views
provided to the enterprise, capable of viewing, definition, simulation,
and management of the entire product definition.
