Rules Processing
Whether an experienced designer hurries
through a task, or an inexperienced designer just doesn't know all of the
requirements, a fair amount product life cycle is lost to doing a job over
again as a result of a simulation or checking function.
The electromechanical industry spends man-hours and TeraFLOPS checking
and reviewing the previous day's efforts. Industry estimates suggest
that as much as 20 percent effort is lost due error corrections and adjustments.
Generative Rules Checking allows the design to be constrained and validated
as the product intent is defined.
Consider the simple scenario where a customer requires a certain temperature
rating on all connectors in the engine compartment. A simple VEMS
Rule can be assigned to the harness object as: IF X
Location < 400 mm then all CHILD Connector Class Objects REQUIRE attribute
OperatingTemperature > 120C
While the Boolean format may appear cumbersome, VEMS menus provide sensible
navigation to generate the rule. Once created, the downstream designers
and users cannot violate the Rule Constraint.
VEMS Generative Rules Checking allows rules to be applied to any parent
or child of a harness object.
